2025-02-11 Building DNA: A Sweet Science Experiment

Science got a little sweeter this week as our Science 10 students built DNA models using marshmallows and Twizzlers! This hands-on activity helped them visualize the double-helix structure of DNA while reinforcing their understanding of base pairing.

Using Twizzlers as the backbone and marshmallows to represent the nitrogenous bases, students carefully paired adenine with thymine and cytosine with guanine, just like in real DNA. This fun and interactive approach made learning about genetics both engaging and memorable.

Check out the photos of their creative (and delicious-looking) DNA models!
